OMLTA Workshop Material

How to Organize a Student Exchange?

The following pages were prepared by Christina Neumann, teacher of German, French and Business at Humberside Collegiate Institute, Toronto. Ms. Neumann has already organized
five student exchanges (2001-2005) between her high school in Toronto and a high school in Hersbruck, a small town in southern Germany.

This information was also part of a workshop ("Student Exchanges: What a Fun Way to Learn!") at the OMLTA Spring Conferences in 2003, 2004 and 2005. It will likely be presented again at next year's OMLTA spring conference. So come and see for yourself.

Quotes from participating students:

"Germany was the most fun two weeks of my life. The food was great! The people were wonderful, generous, kind, and very welcoming, And Wow! Bless those German boys! I wanted to take a few home, but what would I say at customs?" Ann

"My time spent in Germany was honestly the two most memorable weeks of my life. I had an amazing time. I met so many great people and created awesome memories that will stay with me forever. I turned 18 in Germany and my new German friends threw me a big party and treated me like one of their closest friends. It made me feel very special. I will never forget the trip or how great it made me feel. Leaving was one of the hardest things I've ever had to do and the only thing that helped was knowing that they'd be coming here soon." Siobhan
