Kurzinfo über das Kulmbach Programm

Learn German in Germany this Summer!

June 26 - July 17, 2004

The Federal Republic of Germany through the Pädagogischer Austauschdienst (PAD) in conjunction with the Ontario Association of Teachers of German offers a special non-credit summer program for high school students interested in improving their skills in the German language.

If you are enrolled in a secondary school, have at least one year of German study (or equivalent), and are at least 15 years old, you may qualify for the summer of a lifetime!

What will you do in Germany?

You will spend the first two or three days in Munich, where you will get to know the other members of your group and have a chance to see a little of the capital city of Bavaria. Then it’s off to Kulmbach in Northern Bavaria, where you will live with a German family for three weeks and attend classes with your teacher/chaperone from Ontario and a specially-trained teacher from Germany for three hours four mornings each week.

Afternoons and weekends provide an opportunity for you to swim, play tennis, cycle, explore the town of Kulmbach, visit museums and cultural events - a chance to get to know your German family and their community.

One afternoon each week and every Thursday you will visit such places as Bamberg, Bayreuth, Coburg, Nuremberg or Würzburg or a local newspaper, radio station, castle, high school, bakery or even a brewery!

After three wonderful weeks in Kulmbach (June 26 - July 17), you will either return to Munich or travel to Cologne for the final few days of the trip (July 18 - July 23). The final destination will be decided when flights are finalized. Visit historic and cultural institutions such as the Old City Hall, the Olympic Park, the BMW Museum, the Nymphenburg castle, the English Garden and the Neue Pinakothek Art Gallery in Munich or perhaps the Cologne Cathedral, the Roman Museum, the Chocolate Museum in Cologne. You will even spend a full day at the famous Neuschwanstein castle in the foothills of the Alps or visiting castles and towns along the Rhine River!

How much will it cost?

The complete cost will be approximately $3950.00 (depending on the rate of exchange in May). But seven students could win a scholarship worth approximately $900.00!!

When is the summer language enrichment programme?

You will depart from Toronto International Airport on June 25, 2004 and return to Toronto from Munich or Cologne/Düsseldorf on July 23, 2004.

"These five weeks were truly remarkable. I enjoyed everything in Kulmbach and everything in München."

AI made so many great friends - the group was wonderful. I also grew close to my host mom and I know I return to Kulmbach soon to visit her.

AI would definitely recommend this trip for anyone who would like to experience Europe while learning German. I would not exaggerate if I said that this has been the best, the most diverse and the most memorable summer of my life!
